A lot of folk asking various questions regarding the store and the website etc so I thought I would provide an update for Cariad.
1st it has been quite a challenge to open and establish a drum store in the UK when so many stores are finding things really tough. However we are bucking the trend and the support is really and truly great.
I posted a long time ago that when you start such a project you have sleepless nights worrying if anyone would come to store and would they like you and what you have done and so on. (Paranoia sets in!!)
However we have found so many drummers have trusted our prices and advice and love the products we have brought to Wales so the insecurities are a lot less and we are loving the community Cariad is building with the local and not so local drummers.
We have customers as far up as the Scottish isles who return to Cariad for the service so we are certainly reaching out!
There are still challenges and worries ahead. How to keep fresh, how to keep the finances going as every gigging drummer can appreacte, how to get the custom work off the ground and the website to a proper on-line shop and so on. ....
That's the main point I wanted to touch on, the next stages of Cariad and why we have struggled with some aspects of the services we want to provide.
At first the concept was to be a Custom drum company, I approached a few drum stores in the area with the thought of doing something within an already established store but the negativity meant I had to take the risk of being on my own but then you need to establish a customer base, that is a huge task so the retail shop side became the priority and the custom build side had to be put on hold, however we have been able to establish the cymbal repairs and mods, hardware repairs and we are are close to the respray and a proper service for shell mods. (we modify on a limited scale at present)
We have been able to establish a great teaching set up with the help of Gary so many things are in place but a few are still needing our attention so looking ahead we have at last built our spray booth and started spraying and training staff for the sort of work required for drum finishes.
Over the next month we should be able to fully establish this service which in fairness customers have waited a long time for. Our apologies there but I am personally working all possible hours to make sure we can pay the bills and therefore I can only sort one stage at a time. The main work of the workshop side takes a ton of time but it provides the stability for Cariad.
I am also working hard to network with great drummers so we can bring clinics and workshops to the store and also we are now very involved in a Welsh drum fair so that's really exciting for us!!
Next week I will be attending the Freddie Gee academy so I can meet more drummers and bring even more to the store, the following week I will be having meetings so we can at last establish the web site shop that is seriously lacking at present.
We have such great iconic products in store now so it's a must to represent those companies in a quality way.
Later down the line we have many other (Top secret) things to bring to you. Having the store over the last 18 months and getting to know so many drummers allows us to know what concerns most of you so we will be bringing things forward to help you in your musical skills and passion. (Watch this space)
I will be doing a daily blog for next week so please keep an eye out for that!!
Thank you all again as your support means Cariad can be a great little service to you drummers.
